Brolgas pair for life, and are known for their elaborate mating dance. Their name comes from Gamilaraay language, in which they are called 'burralga' and they are one of two species of crane native to Australia. The brolga was declared Queensland Bird Emblem in 1986 and is featured on the Queensland coat of arms.
